How long should I keep my records?

You should keep any and all documents used to prepare your tax returns for seven years.

Will the government shutdown delay the start of tax season.

Thankfully No.  January 28th is the first day to e-file 2018 tax returns.


Will refunds be issued if the government shutdown continues?

As of this time refunds will be issued even if the government continues to be shutdown.


What method is best for receiving my refund?

Direct Deposit is preferred over having a check mailed to you. It is safer and faster.

How does the increase in the Standard Deduction effect the documents I need for my tax return?

If you have itemized in the past, you should continue to keep all documents related to medical, mortgage, charitable contributions and state, local and sales taxes. Bring all to your tax preparer so he/she can confirm if you are still able to itemize.
